All parents and students should know what to do and what will be done when there is a problem with
the bus. Below are questions and answers on how to handle certain situations. Please go over this
with your child so that they are also informed and prepared.
1. If the bus does not show up at the morning stop, what do the students do?
If students are at the bus stop on time, they should remain there as a bus will come, regardless
of any mechanical delays which may require a replacement bus.
2. If the bus has not shown up at the bus stop after 10 minutes, should a parent or student call the
school?
Yes. A call to the Muirlands office (the number is on the front of the bus pass) will enable us to
call the District Transportation Dept and alert them to the issue if they are not already aware. If
the school is already aware, we may even be able to update the caller as to estimated arrival
time. If not, we will at least be able to establish phone contact with a student or parent at the
site.
3. If the bus breaks down at the bus stop, should all students stay on the bus until another bus
arrives?
Yes.
4. If the bus breaks down while on the way to school, should all the students stay on the bus until
another bus arrives?
Yes.
5. If the bus is late getting to its first stop because it’s in traffic or had a break down or any sort of
problem – what happens?
As soon as Muirlands becomes aware of a problem, we will try to send someone out to the stop
until the replacement bus arrives. Notifying us at Muirlands will allow us to immediately contact
the School District and coordinate with the Transportation Department.
***(If the bus is late to school for any reason – students are not marked
tardy.)***
